Mattersey is delighted to be able to offer short courses of study to help leaders and church workers to develop their skills and knowledge in the excellent learning environment of Mattersey Hall Christian College and the National Ministry Centre. Courses will usually comprise of the following:
- Eight sessions spread over eight days in two non-consecutive weeks of on-campus study: Monday to Thursday.
- Training which allows church workers/volunteers to study without suspending church, work or family responsibilities.
- One teaching session of just under two hours in length per day, with time for reflection, reading and fellowship.
- Qualified and experienced lecturers in their fields, practitioners as well as tutors.
- The opportunity to ask questions and network with other leaders and those training for Christian ministry.
- Access to the Research Centre for additional quality study time outside of the lectures.
- The option to submit a written assignment and obtain a non-accredited Certificate from Mattersey Hall. This is not compulsory.
- Lunch provided each day in the dining room of the Residential Centre, included in the price.
- The option to have accommodation: bed and full board at the National Ministry Centre if required.
- An open invitation to attend morning devotions, student prayer and worship and ministry in the College Chapel.
- ‘Communicating the Bible’ taught in full across one week.

Course: The Faith of the Church
An inspiring introduction to the central doctrines and beliefs of the Christian Faith. Special emphasis will be given to the nature of God, the Trinity, the person of Jesus Christ and the work of the cross. Lecturer: Mark Wreford. Course: Understanding the Bible
An overview of how to interpret the biblical books, verses and texts correctly for preaching, considering different literatures, contexts, covenants and cultural backgrounds. Key skills for all Bible communicators, local church leaders and anyone who publicly teaches from the Scripture text. Course: Biblical Languages for Christian Ministry
Ideal for the local church Bible teacher or pastor, an introduction to Hebrew and Greek. Get closer to the original text and begin to understand it like never before. Course: Lukan Perspectives on Mission
The course will consider the historical and cultural context of Luke-Acts; and will go on to introduce key themes – including the Kingdom of God, the marginalised, Jesus the Saviour, the Holy Spirit and the Church – in order to explore Luke’s understanding of the mission both of Jesus and of the Church. Course: Communicating the Bible
An introduction to the art of preparing and presenting the Christian message in a variety of contemporary contexts but with special reference to the local church. This course includes active preaching workshops. Please note: this course is double the normal time for lectures and is run in its entirety across four days. An exploration of the biblical and practical nature of mission, encompassing different approaches: short and long term, social action and holistic, and engaging local churches in mission.
