The Donald Gee Centre for Pentecostal and Charismatic Research is a registered charity separate from, but located at, Mattersey Hall. It is run by an interdenominational group of Trustees, and the Council of Reference is interdenominational and international.
The aim of the Centre is to create a library and archive resource for Pentecostal and Charismatic research, mainly concerned with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the British Isles. The areas of interest include the historical antecedents of pentecostalism, its early beginnings, the formation of denominational groups, including black groups, missions development and policy, the charismatic renewal and restoration fellowships. An occasional bulletin is published, usually annually.
The materials the centre holds are primarily in the form of letters, diaries, minute books, photographs and the like, but there are also holdings of rare and relevant books. All Pentecostal and Charismatic material comes within the compass of the collection, though the strongest holdings are to be found in the period before 1920 and in the period from c1960 onwards. Some of the material is sensitive, though all of it is open to bona fide researchers.
There is also a large number of general books and magazines. These are still in the process of being classified and much of it is now logged onto an easy-to-use database. The books deal with most aspects of British Pentecostalism -- healing, biographies, doctrine and various private publications. The magazines include not only Confidence, the Elim Evangel and Redemption Tidings but also the Fountain Trust archives and newsletters and prayer letters associated with the move of the Spirit. In addition the library of the College includes a wide range of Pentecostal and Charismatic publications and several higher degree theses which members are welcome to consult.
To gain access to this key international research resource, which is regularly consulted by scholars from the UK and abroad, you need to apply for membership of the centre. To do so, email us here with your contact details and research interests.
