This course aims to introduce students to the academic disciplines of Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology from a solidly faith-based but analytical perspective, reflecting strongly the Pentecostal heritage of the college. The programme seeks to develop students’ critical skills to enable them to make rational assessments about the interpretation and application of biblical texts to contemporary situations. Preparing men and women both intellectually and in other ways for all forms of Christian ministry remains a key focus of the programme, however. This course does not take a disinterested and clinical academic approach, but seeks to enable graduates to become more effective in serving the church – Pentecostal, charismatic or evangelical – particularly through pastoral ministry, and in other more broadly defined ministries such as teaching and humanitarian and academic work.
The general objectives of both our BA programmes are that our graduates will be able to demonstrate:
• detailed awareness of the contents of the protestant Bible, and skills in biblical interpretation (hermeneutically, homiletically and pedagogically)
• a knowledge of church history and a grasp of Christian doctrine and its development
• a working knowledge of the biblical languages and aptitude for Bible translation and exegesis (for those suitably gifted)
• skills in the presentation and communication of Christian teaching, particularly in crosscultural and intercultural contexts
• a detailed understanding of key principles of Christian mission at home and abroad
• an understanding of the culture(s) of the world in which they live
professional competences in areas of possible ministries such as broadcasting and communication, counselling, leadership and church growth, social concern, as well as academic theology and biblical studies
